Before you go

• Mainland coverage is strong, and the Balearics and Canaries are well served too, though the Canaries are geographically closer to Africa and worth checking is included before you rely on it.
• The Camino de Santiago routes cross some genuinely empty country in Castilla y León. Download the stage maps rather than trusting a live connection.
• Southern Spain in August is hot enough that phones throttle. If your data feels slow in direct sun, get the handset into shade before blaming the network.
• These are data-only plans. They don't come with a local phone number, and they don't carry calls or texts, so keep your normal SIM switched on for those and let the eSIM handle data.
• The plan starts when it first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy it. Buy it weeks ahead if you like; the clock starts when you land.
• Install it before you fly, over your home Wi-Fi. Installing needs an internet connection, which is the one thing you won't have at the airport.
• Don't delete an eSIM to make room for another one. An activation code only works once, and your phone can hold several profiles side by side.

Does a Spain plan cover the Canary Islands and Mallorca?

Both are Spanish territory and are normally covered by a Spain plan. The Canaries sit outside mainland Europe geographically, so if they're the main destination it's worth confirming coverage on the plan you pick.

Will it work in Gibraltar or Andorra?

No. Both are separate territories with their own operators. A Europe regional plan is the way to cover them alongside Spain.

How much data for a week in Spain?

5 GB is a comfortable week. 10 GB if you're driving and running maps all day.
