Before you go

• The mainland and the larger islands (Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos) are well covered. The small Cyclades and the remoter Dodecanese are much thinner.
• Island-hopping ferries lose signal in open water. The longer routes out of Piraeus can be several hours with nothing.
• Ancient sites are often on hilltops with excellent line of sight and, unexpectedly, some of the best signal you'll get all day.
• These are data-only plans. They don't come with a local phone number, and they don't carry calls or texts, so keep your normal SIM switched on for those and let the eSIM handle data.
• The plan starts when it first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy it. Buy it weeks ahead if you like; the clock starts when you land.
• Install it before you fly, over your home Wi-Fi. Installing needs an internet connection, which is the one thing you won't have at the airport.
• Don't delete an eSIM to make room for another one. An activation code only works once, and your phone can hold several profiles side by side.

Will it work on the islands and the ferries?

On the islands themselves, yes, and the popular ones have good coverage. On the ferry crossings you'll drop out once you're properly offshore.

Does a Greece plan cover the Turkish coast opposite Rhodes?

No. That's Turkey and needs its own plan, or a regional plan covering both.

How much data for ten days island-hopping?

5 GB to 10 GB depending on how much you photograph and upload. Ferry time is offline time, which brings the average down.
